Ms. Dot’s Hot Chicken traces its roots to the life and legacy of Dorothy Tompkins, affectionately known as “Ms. Dot,” a woman whose love for food and for people left a lasting mark on her community. A devoted teacher, she nurtured countless children—her beloved “little chicks”—both inside and outside the classroom.
Feeding people was second nature to Ms. Dot. Her kitchen became a gathering place filled with laughter, love, and the rich aromas of home-cooked dishes. Through her generosity, Ms. Dot shared not only food, but also a sense of community that stayed with those she fed long after they grew up.
That spirit lives on through her granddaughter, Sarah Brooks and co-owner Harold Rogers who’s children were her students. Ms. Dot passed down her treasured values - care, community, and pride in feeding others well.
The restaurant is more than a place to enjoy bold, flavorful dishes, it is a tribute to a woman whose passion for teaching and cooking helped shape generations and whose legacy continues to nourish Bridgeport one plate at a time.
